Compatibility of Insecticides, Fungicides, and Foliar Fertilizers on Watermelon

چکیده
Insecticides, fungicides, and foliar fertilizers are all used in the production of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris L.) in Florida. In certain areas of the state, particularly in south Florida, pesticides are commonly applied at 5-7 day in tervals to maintain disease and insect control. Growers with large acreages combine insecticides and fungicides so that both can be applied at the required short interval. In addition, materials are combined simply to save the time and labor required to make separate applications. Several pesticide-nutritional spray mixtures have been suspected of causing physical damage to watermelon plants, but no recommendations have been made regarding the phytotoxicity of these spray mixtures because of the lack of ex perimental evidence. In addition, little was known about the pesticidal effectiveness of these mix

habditid nematodes of the Steinernematidae and Heterorhabditidae family are lethal to a broad range of economically important insect pests (Journey and Ostlie, 2000). Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) are often applied to sites and ecosystems that routinely receive other inputs that may interact with nematodes, including chemical pesticides, fertilizers, and soil amendments (De Nardo and Grewal,...
متن کاملCompatibility of the Entomopathogenic Fungus Beauveria bassiana with Some Fungicides Used in California Strawberry
INTRODUCTION Several arthropod pests infest strawberry crop in California and cause a significant yield loss according to Zalom, Bolda, Dara, and Joseph [1]. Strawberry is an important commercial crop and the annual report from California Department of Pesticide Regulations [2] indicates that large quantities of acaricides, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides are applied to manage a variet...
متن کاملConsequences of co-applying insecticides and fungicides for managing Thrips tabaci (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) on onion.
BACKGROUND Insecticides and fungicides are commonly co-applied in a tank mix to protect onions from onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman, and foliar pathogens. Co-applications reduce production costs, but past research shows that an insecticide's performance can be reduced when co-applied with a fungicide. An evaluation was made of the effects of co-applying spinetoram, abamectin and spirotetra...
متن کاملCompatibility Conflict: Is the Use of Biological Control Agents with Pesiticides a Viable Management Strategy?
Biological control or the use of natural enemies is an alternative pest management strategy for dealing with arthropods. However, natural enemies may not always provide adequate control of plant-feeding insects and mites in greenhouses. As a result, research has assessed the concept of using natural enemies in conjunction with pesticides and the potential compatibility when both pest management...
متن کاملComparison of management strategies for squash bugs (Hemiptera: Coreidae) in watermelon.
Two watermelon pest management practices, a squash trap crop and a standard recommendation using soil-applied carbofuran, were compared using large-scale field plots to assess trap crop suitability as a replacement for the standard in 2000, 2001, and 2002. In both systems, foliar insecticide applications were used to control squash bugs when populations exceeded threshold levels. During 2001 an...
